Windows 7 Installation and Uninstallation

     This article will cover the clean installation, upgrade install, startup repair, and a parallel install. Like in the other versions of Windows it is recommended to contact your computer manufacturer and software vendors to see what steps will need to be taken to get a successful install onto your computer.


Windows 7 Clean Installation

     A clean installation of windows is generally the recommended way to install Windows 7 onto your pc. This method will require you to reinstall all your programs and data onto the computer. The reason this method is recommended is that it removes any software componenets that could cause problems during the Windows installation. To do a clean installation follow the instructions below.

Windows 7 Clean Installation Instructions

1: Boot up your computer.
2: Insert the Windows 7 disc into your DVD or Blu-Ray drive.
3: Reboot your computer if needed.
4: Press any key on the keyboard when the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears on the screen.
5: Choose your language settings on the screen that appears then click Next.
6: Click the Install Now button.
7: Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the Windows 7 Installation.

Windows 7 upgrade Installation

     A Windows 7 upgrade requires you to have a current Windows Vista install on your computer. When upgrading to Windows 7 it is usefull to contact your computer manufacturer and various software vendors to see what steps will be required to achieve a successful Windows 7 installation. It is also recommended to check Microsoft's Compatibility Center prior to upgrading as well. To perform an upgrade use the follow instructions below. Please note that you need to upgrade Vista to the same version of Windows 7 (i.e. Vista Home to Windows 7 Home).

Windows 7 Upgrade Installation Instructions

1: Boot up your computer into your Windows Xp or Windows Vista dekstop.
2: Insert the Windows 7 disc into your DVD or Blu-Ray drive.
3: Click the Install Now button on the Install Windows screen that appears.
4: Setup your language options then click the Next button.
5: Click on the Upgrade option on the screen.
6: Follow the instructions to finish the Windows 7 upgrade.

Windows 7 Repair Installation

     The Startup Repair option isn't technically a installation type but it is used to repair a corrupted Winodws 7 install that is no longer able to boot. This is generally used by support technicians when troubleshoooting no boot issues. To perform a startup repair use the following instructions below.

Winodws 7 Startup Repair Instructions

1: Boot up your computer.
2: Insert the Windows 7 disc into your DVD or Blu-Ray drive.
3: Reboot the computer if needed.
4: Press any key on the keyboard when the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears on the screen.
5: Setup your language options and click Next.
6: Click on the Repair Your Computer link.
7: Choose the Windows 7 install and click on the Next button.
8: Click on the Startup Repairlink.
9: Follow the instructions on screen to finish the startup repair option.

Windows 7 Parallel Installation

     A parallel installation is the method of installing Windows 7 onto a new partition while a corrupted version of Windows 7 exists on the computer. This method is generally used by repair technicians prior to doing a clean install onto the system. This method will let you access your files and\or settings from the corrupted Windows 7 installation. To do a parallel install use the following instructions below.

Windows 7 Parallel Installation Instructions

1: Boot up your computer.
2: Insert the Windows 7 disc into your DVD or Blu-Ray drive.
3: Reboot the computer if needed.
4: Press any key on the keyboard when the message Press any key to boot from CD or DVD appears on the screen.
5: Setup your language options and click Next.
6: Click on the Install Now button.
7: Follow the instructions on screen until you get to the disk partition part of the setup.
8: Choose a different disk and\or partition to install Windows 7 onto then click Next.
9: Follow the instructions on screen to allow the parallel install to finish.

Windows 7 Unisntallation

     Windows 7 does not include any tools to unistall Windows 7 back to Winodws Vista. To restore your computer back to Windows Vista or to another operating system will require you to perform a clean installation of the previous operating system.
