Punch-Out!! review by Tyson

Overall

Buy

I find Punch-Out to be a game that is worth buying for the NES. It has a unique and well made style to it.

Gameplay

In Punch-Out your main goal is to go from boxing bum to boxing champion. To do this you will need to defeat 10 boxers and finally Mike Tyson or Mr. Dream (Depending on your version). I found the boxing mechanics to be simplistic and fun. You can hit with either your left or right fists and you can do various dodge maneuvers. Each of your opponents also have their own boxing styles as well and I found that this gives the game a lot of depth.

What I found to be really unique and fun about Punch-Out was that the game is full of secrets. Just about every opponent has a way to knock them out fairly quick. Plus there are ways to counter some of your opponents most dangerous moves as well. This game just feels chuck full of secrets and I really enjoyed that.

Control

Punch-Out has a very simple yet effective control setup. You use the A and B buttons to throw punches and you use the directional pad to dodge or throw uppercuts with the punch buttons. I really had no problems with Punch-Outs control setup.

Graphics

I really enjoyed the look of Punch-Out. I liked how each boxer had their own look and fighting styles. I like how there is a decent of mount of animation in the game as well.

Sound

The sound is another area where Punch-Out excels. The punches sound good and I liked the roar of the crowd when someone gets knocked down. I found the background music just getting stuck in my head.
