Pilotwings Resort review by Tyson

Pilotwings Resort is one of those palate cleanser games. If you are getting tired of shooting people or blowing stuff up then Pilotwings Resort is the game for you.

Gameplay

Pilotwings Resort starts off with you getting a flight license and then going through several classes doing various missions as you advance throughout the game. While playing you get 3 different vehicles a plane, rocket belt, and a hang glider. There are a few missions that showcase a few different varieties of the plane and rocket belt as well.

I have to say that I enjoyed the actual missions. While a lot of mission used the common fly through floating rings setup there was also several missons that are unique to each vehicle. I really enjoyed several missions where you had to use the plan put out fires or where you got a squirrel suit during a rocket belt mission. I also found several more fun missions like with the plane where you had to shoot balloons from a moving car. I found most of the hang glider missions to be okay but not up the same quality of the other vehicles. Though you do get some fun hang glider missions like having to take pictures of objects.

So in the end I found Pilotwings Resort to be a unique and fun game. It’s one of those palate cleanser games in that the game isn’t about killing stuff or shooting a gun but rather built around just having fun.

Control

I really didn’t have any issues with the control here. Even the analog nub that has given me trouble in other games seemed to work well here.

Graphics

I found the graphics in Pilotwings Resort to be pretty average. While I know the game was a launch title for the 3DS but I still felt they could have put better use of the 3DS graphical abilities. My main complaint is that I found many blurry textures in the game. I didn’t like the look of the hang glider since it looked very blurry to me. The one area where I feel that did a good job was with the environment. The island looks nice outside of the blurry textures.

Sound

The music and sound effects in Pilotwings Resort gave me some nostalgic flashbacks of earlier Pilotwings games. The music and very sound effects really sounded like the N64 game and I really liked that but I do wish that the game would of made its sound more unique to this version.
